PARAX S-RACK Bike Mount Review – Everything You Need to Know

On a white wall the Part S-Rack is mounted on while keeping the white BMC Roadmachine from Roberto Vukovic and carrying a white Lamar Helmet and Oakley Sutro glasses on it.

If you really love your bike, you can’t leave it in the cellar. The risk of theft would be too high, and I can tell you from my experience that it may happen. Now, the issue is that not everyone has a big house with lots of space to put the bike elsewhere. The best solution, therefore, is a wall mount. It saves tons of space while putting your home to order. On top of that, it looks amazing. With tons of compliments on my bike wall, here’s my review of the *PARAX S-RACK wall mount.

– long bolts and wall plugs might be a little tricky due to deep drilling

The PARAX S-RACK bike mount has been out for a few years now, and although PARAX isn’t a bigger player in cycling, like Stasdock, it has earned an excellent reputation in a very short time.

The S-RACK itself is very lightweight, and yet it allows a max load of 20kg, which is 5 kg more than the Stasdock one that allows 15 kg only. Sure due to the cleaner design you have less storage than a Stasdock has, but the only thing you’re missing out on, are your shoes. Helmets, glasses, and a pump for instance, all have their place due to the smart shape and the classy board.

The PARAX S-RACK in standard size M costs 79€ if you order from a German address. Size L costs an additional 10€, and so does the colorway walnut. However, prices can very from region to region depending where you live. That’s very competitive considering that there aren’t many who can challenge PARAX in design and quality. For example, wall mounts from Cycloc or Topeak might be cheaper but stand no chance in value compared to Parax.

The guys at PARAX also promise free shipping worldwide. This in turn makes the S-RACK insanely accessible no matter where you order from.

Bikes to The Wall!

While the majority of bike wall mounts come in thin and poor designs, PARAX created the S-RACK in a smart way by adding a board for additional storage, and using aluminum for the rack to make it lightweight while increasing its area for space.

Compared to the Stasdock wall mount, the S-RACK comes in two sizes, saving you additional space if you don’t use an overly wide handlebar. If you’re in need, however, bars up to 70 cm are supported in a size L S-RACK.

That being said, they don’t tie you down to a small number of choices. Rather you can choose the housing and board in the colors that fit your apartment the most. You can choose black or white for the rack, and walnut, which is a darker brown, black, white, or birch for the shelf.

I went for the white rack color and birch for the board.

I am very satisfied with the colors in real life and I think they are just a perfect fit at my home as you can see.

Furthermore, the unboxing is quite pictorial. PARAX sends out the S-RACK in a fitting Packaging made to exactly fit the S-RACK. Thereby, they also avoid unnecessary materials and save the environment. That being said, everything you get is packed in paper, which further underlines their value of sustainability. Once you open the package you’ll find your S-RACK, the template, bolts and plugs for the S-RACK with a screwdriver, and bolts for the wooden board.

Finally, the felt insert on the mount of the S-RACK will avoid any scratches that might make you call it a day, and are a hugely welcomed alternative to standard rubber. The felt feels stiff and soft at the same time, proving that it will take great care of your bike.

PARAX S-RACK – What I Like

To start with, installation is incredibly easy. And I tell you that as a very inexperienced craftsman. I first started drilling a few months ago (thank you dad). So, if I can do it, you definitely can. All you need is a drilling machine, a 6 and 8 mm drill, the bolts and plugs you get from PARAX, and their secret sauce: The mounting template.

The template has the shape of the S-Rack with the four holes you need to drill. A pendulum will make sure that you drill every hole even so that your bike stands perfectly straight later on.

On a white wall the PARAX S-Rack mounting template is fixed with one hand, while the other hand draws the hole on the wall through the template while the pendulum is exactly even.
The mounting template makes the installation almost a walk in the park

Also, PARAX has a full site on their website dedicated to a successful installation. Just click here. So as you can see, succeeding becomes a non-negotiable with all these tips. One thing I would like to mention, though, is that you should make sure your wall stands the load and consists of concrete to do so.

Once you’re done mounting the S-RACK, you can fit your bikes. No matter if you have a road bike with a sloped or even top tube, an MTB, your Gravel bike, or your city bike, they are all welcomed. I have a 56 cm frame with an even top tube while my girlfriend is riding a sloped frame from Liv in size M. They both fit quite well.

Now, the great thing about the shape of the S-RACK and the wooden board is that you have great space increases with very little restrictions in volume or size. For example, you can place your helmet on top of the S-RACK and use the shelf for your glasses, your pump, and your wallet as I do. While you can’t place your shoes on the S-RACK, I see that as an advantage as I don’t want my cheesy feet shoes somewhere hung on the wall. Instead, I prefer a proper shelf for my shoes.

What’s more, the high-quality aluminum and wood create a long-term lifespan, meaning if you move out, simply unscrew the bolts and you are good to go to place your S-RACK somewhere else.

Lastly, I like to mention that you can also fix the wooden board with small bolts to the S-RACK. There are holes marked below the S-RACK to do so. Yet, I didn’t fix it and it works well for me. If, however, you like some extra safety, just install the bolts.

PARAX S-RACK – What I Like Less

It’s marginal, but the standard plugs are not as good as the ones you get in your local hardware store. Basically, plugs from the hardware store look and feel better to me.

Essentially, the PARAX plugs and bolts are pretty long, meaning you need to drill very deep holes. Therefore, I used shorter plugs and bolts. However, I don’t recommend it and refer to the exclusion of liability because I don’t know whether there are any regulations upon using such long plugs if you place a load of up to 20kg.

I think, though, that for the vast majority of cyclists the plugs and bolts from PARAX will be fine and that just lazy DIY’ers, as I am, have an issue with the plugs.

Apart from that there is nothing bad to say about the PARAX S-RACK. Rather there is more to add to the great amount of products PARAX offers.

D-STRAP: Everyone has a Partner in Crime

It might be a small often overlooked detail with a huge impact: The belt. I mean what do you do to keep your pants in place, when they start slipping? Right, you go buy yourself a belt.

The PARAX D-STRAP is similar. As the bars of your bike hang loose on your S-RACK you want to keep them in place by wrapping a D-Strap around your lower tube and your front wheel. This will prevent your front wheel from moving to the side, which can result in a few scratches on your wall, your front wheel, or your shifters. And as we already discussed with the felt, everyone hates scratches on their bikes. And what is better than a boring strap on your bike? The D-Strap with its black leather design further adding class and quality to your wall mount corner.

Now, for 19€ I think the PARAX D-STRAP is the perfect addition to get the best out of your bike wall mount solution at home. But again, remember that prices may vary from region to region. In addition, leather is a resilient material meaning you will get a lot of value out of that small strap.

However, keep in mind that the D-STRAP isn’t necessary for the S-RACK to work. My wheel also keeps the line without it, so I have to admit it has more of an accessory purpose with the safety aspect in mind.

On a white wall a white BMC Roadmachine Bike hangs on the Parax S-Rack while the PARAX D-Strap is wrapped around the front wheel and lower tube to save the wheel from moving side to side.
If you love accessory as much as I do, you will love the PARAX D-STRAP

Parax S-RACK Overall

In summary, there’s a lot to like here.

Sure, the bolts and plugs are a little clunky to mount, but these small issues will have little impact on the vast majority of people and the high-quality and great design far exceed any downside.

It’s also worth remembering that there are compromises to make with any bike wall mount because there’s no one infinitely variable solution to fit all bikes and preferences. PARAX, however, made the most out of it, with the shapes and sizes of the S-RACK.

If you are looking for a relatively cheap, high-quality, easy-to-install, and efficient bike wall mount, the PARAX S-RACK is currently one of the best options on the market.
